Responsibilities
Summary
The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for the preparation and review of federal and state tax returns. Undertakes extensive self-reviews to generate a solid work product that requires limited changes upon higher level review and ensures that proper information is maintained for historical purposes. The individual assists and works with other Tax Professionals as required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- The Senior Tax Accountant independently prepares, or reviews work of others, as applicable for all US consolidated corporate income tax returns (federal and state) and other related returns, including preparation or review of detailed workpapers supporting all tax return line items and related tax positions, all at an exceptional high level of quality with need for limited changes upon higher level review.
- Prepares and computes quarterly income tax estimates.
- The Senior Tax Accountant conducts tax research & planning assignments.
- Maintains general ledger balances of selected tax accounts, including performing related quarterly reconciliations.
- The Senior Tax Accountant works closely with accounting and other groups to obtain and validate information for income tax preparation.
- Reviews and analyzes tax books within the fixed asset system, including reconciliation of any GAAP books and tax books differences.
- The Senior Tax Accountant prepares domestic reporting for foreign entities.
- Responsible for optimizing state and federal business tax credits with limited guidance.
- The Senior Tax Accountant assists with due diligence on acquisitions.
- Assists in developing responses for requests related to all Federal and State audits as well as gathering necessary information.
- The Senior Tax Accountant maintains knowledge and compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and their impact to the company.
- Assists with documentation and implementation of tax policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Master's degree in taxation and CPA very desirable.
- Three to four years of experience in the tax area. Experience at a public accounting firm is preferred.
- Must have extensive and proven independent experience in federal consolidated returns (preparation and review). Must have a multi-state tax background.
- A strong conceptual understanding of accounting and financial statements is preferred. Experience with accounting for income taxes is a plus.
- Must present effective oral and written communication skills. Must possess strong organizational skills and work-paper techniques. Must be a confident decision-maker and be able to produce accurate results with minimal supervision.
- Must possess strong Excel and other computer skills. Ability to organize, download and upload large data files.
- Experience with Thomson Reuters OneSource software a plus.
- Experience with accounting for fixed assets and BNA Depreciation software a plus.
- Ability to read and analyze financial reports and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
