Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Computer Forensic Consultant/ Examiner with 1-3 years of experience to join our dynamic eDiscovery team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting digital forensic investigations, analyzing electronic evidence, and supporting litigation support teams with defensible data analysis and extraction. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of forensic tools and methodologies, along with a passion for solving complex digital challenges in the legal and compliance sectors. This position reports to the Director of Forensics or analogue.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform forensic acquisition, imaging, and preservation of digital evidence from various media types (hard drives, mobile devices, cloud storage, etc.).
- Analyze electronic data to recover and trace digital evidence following established legal standards and procedures.
- Assist in identifying, collecting, and processing electronically stored information (ESI) for litigation and investigations.
- Use forensic tools (e.g., EnCase, FTK, Magnet AXIOM, Cellebrite) to examine and extract data while ensuring chain-of-custody procedures are strictly adhered to.
- Prepare summary and detailed reports summarizing forensic findings and providing insight into data for use in legal cases.
- Support eDiscovery teams with data processing, culling, and analysis workflows.
- Work with legal and end client teams to provide consultation on data retrieval, preservation, and the forensic process as it relates to eDiscovery.
- Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and best practices in digital forensics and eDiscovery.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including legal professionals, IT teams, and external forensic experts.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Timely Completion of Forensic Acquisitions: Complete forensic imaging and data collection tasks within assigned deadlines, with 90% of cases adhering to established timelines.
- Accuracy in Data Preservation: Ensure 100% accuracy in following chain-of-custody procedures and forensic best practices for the preservation of evidence.
- Compliance with Legal Standards: Maintain 100% adherence to legal and regulatory standards for data handling and privacy (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, RoE), ensuring all work is defensible in court.
- Professional Development: Complete at least one professional certification or attend relevant industry training/seminars annually to stay updated on digital forensics and eDiscovery trends.
- Tool Proficiency: Demonstrate consistent use and proficiency in forensic tools (e.g., FTK, Cellebrite, ModeOne) by completing at least 80% of tasks independently without requiring significant oversight or troubleshooting.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience in computer forensics, digital investigations, or related fields, preferably within an eDiscovery company or legal setting.
- Hands-on experience with forensic tools such as EnCase, FTK, Cellebrite, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with the eDiscovery lifecycle, including data preservation, collection, processing, etc.
- Strong knowledge of operating systems, file systems, and network protocols.
- Basic understanding of legal principles related to electronic evidence handling and chain of custody.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in technical report writing and client communication.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Certifications such as EnCE (EnCase Certified Examiner), ACE (AccessData Certified Examiner), or CCE (Certified Forensic Examiner) are a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital Forensics, or a related field.
- Familiarity with other life cycle platforms such as Relativity, Nuix, or similar eDiscovery tools.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, PowerShell) for automation of forensic tasks.
- Experience with mobile device forensics and cloud data collection.
- Ability to relay complex forensic information to non-technical stakeholders and customers.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
Willingness to travel: 25% (Preferred)
