DESCRIPTION
PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION: The primary role of the Emergency Department Physician Assistant will be to provide direct care management of Emergency Department (ED) patients in collaboration with the ED attending physician(s) and other members of a multidisciplinary ED team. This position is specifically to improve care for patients being evaluated and treated in the ED.
DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY: As a Physician Assistant, you are delegated the authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENT / DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illness.
- Perform age-appropriate history and physical.
- Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient's age-specific needs.
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments to patient's age-specific need.
- Monitor the effectiveness of treatments.
- Provide education of acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Manage chronic medical conditions.
- Reconcile medication list.
- Facilitate appointments to specialists.
- Provide thorough exams and evaluations of patient's health status.
- Facilitate appropriate chronic care management (i.e. diabetic eye exams, foot exams, and nutritional counseling).
- Preventive medicine.
- Keep track of and refer patients to appropriate preventive medical screenings (e.g. mammograms and colonoscopies).
- Counsel and reinforce patients in healthy lifestyle habits.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Physician Assistant certification.
- Massachusetts license.
- ACLS Certificate.
- MCSR (Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration).
EXPERIENCE:
- Proficient computer skills (MS Word).
- EMR experience required.
- Ability to document in electronic health record completely and accurately.
- Knowledge of clinical reminders and how to use them appropriately.
- Good communication skills, both spoken and written.
- Willing and able to work in a team environment.
- Able to change with the ever-evolving healthcare field.
