JOB SUMMARY
Houston Physicians’ Hospital is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician who will be responsible for supporting our laboratory services with the primary goal of optimizing lab processes. This individual will be responsible for monitoring and tracking the hospital’s point-of-care and moderately-complex lab testing procedures, the blood utilization program, and coordination of off-site testing locations. The Medical Laboratory Technician will successfully maintain records of laboratory processes and equipment, and generate reports to submit to the Director of Quality.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree in medical technology with minimum four years Generalist experience or Medical technologist with a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology preferably with generalist experience.
- Experience working in a lab environment preferred.
- Working experience operating electrical and non-electrical laboratory equipment.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database systems.
- Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail; analytical skills.
- Process improvement experience.
- Certification as Medical Lab Technician MLT (ASCP), Medical Technologist MT(ASCP) or equivalent preferred (not required).
- BLS certification.
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE
Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards, and may encounter radiation hazards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain equipment and assist in ordering laboratory supplies.
- Perform quality control tests per manufacturer’s recommendations on point-of-care and moderately-complex equipment. Assist with testing and calibrating lab equipment in preparation for specific tasks.
- Assist in preparation of samples prior to transport to testing site.
- Analyze data and prepare reports for the quality management system.
- Follow hospital policies and procedures related to lab services.
