Renown Health, Northern Nevada's largest and only not-for-profit healthcare network, is seeking to hire a Trauma Surgeon to join our growing Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma. Incumbent will be practicing in the region's busiest full-service Level II Trauma Center serving a catchment area of over 900,000. This position will have medical directorship opportunities for consideration.
Renown Health and the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) are affiliate partners in Nevada's first integrated academic health system. The affiliation aims to improve the health of the community, region, and state through research, medical education, and expanded clinical care. Renown physicians participate as joint faculty at UNR Med for teaching, lectures, supervising clinical rotations, and other academic activities for the education of medical and physician assistant students, residents, and fellows.

Core Responsibilities:
- Productive and participating member of the Department of Surgery Renown Medical Group under the leadership of the Chair of Surgery, Vice Chair of Surgery, and Division Chiefs for Trauma and Critical Care.
- Examining patients, making initial assessments, and questioning patients and family members on complaints, symptoms, and medical history.
- Conducting diagnostic tests and determining which instruments and methods of surgery would be most successful.
- Performing emergency procedures, such as endotracheal tube intubation, pericardiocentesis, and ultrasonographic evaluations.
- Performing operations on critical, often multiple, injuries to different organ systems.
- Using a variety of medical tools, such as surgical clamps, lasers, and medical software.
- Working with other specialized Surgeons to stabilize patients in critical condition.
- Coordinating nurses, assistants, anesthesiologists, specialists, and other medical staff required for surgery.
- Providing in-service training on new surgical technology.
- Remaining up-to-date on surgical techniques by reading medical journals and attending medical conferences.
- Developing and implementing post-surgery treatment plans to ensure successful recovery and management of the patient's condition.
- Collaborating with other medical professionals.
- Promoting and participating in clinical research to improve surgical techniques and patient outcomes.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed medical records for all patients ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and protocols.
- Ensuring all surgical procedures comply with healthcare laws, regulations, and standards.
- Providing education and support to patients and their families regarding the surgical procedure and post-operative care.
This position does provide direct patient care.
Minimum Qualifications

Experience: | Completion of a residency and fellowship program in Trauma and Critical Care or Acute Care Surgery Fellowship or be a board-certified general surgeon with adequately focused trauma surgery experience with a minimum of three (3) years of general clinical surgery practice experience. |
License(s): | Must possess and maintain a current and valid State of Nevada Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) medicine license. Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA, required. |
Certification(s): | Board-Eligible or Board-Certified by American Board of Surgery in Trauma and Critical Care completing a Trauma and Critical Care/Acute Care Fellowship. If Provider is Board Eligible at time of hire, Board Certification must be obtained within two (2) years of employment. Advanced Certification Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) required. Prefer American Heart Association (AHA) approved certification, but will accept online certification from American Red Cross Training Services, Advanced Medical Certification, or ACLS Certification Institute. |
Computer / Typing: | Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. |
Credentialing: | Ability to credential through Renown's Medical Staff and/or payor credentialing, as applicable. |
