Summary Statement
This position is integral to maintaining the safety and security of both clients and staff at the Delaware Psychiatric Center (DPC). The role involves identifying and addressing environmental risks in collaboration with Maintenance, the Fire Marshal, and contractors. Additionally, the position includes overseeing the hospital’s Emergency Operations, ensuring readiness and effective response during critical situations. Situated within the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Department, this role also involves collecting and analyzing data from various sources to support safety initiatives. A strong understanding of Healthcare Environmental Risk Management or Environmental safety and risk operations will provide a valuable background for the incumbent’s success in this role.
Essential Functions

- Designs, implements and evaluates program including risk management, unexpected adverse events, hazardous waste control and patient, staff and visitor safety.
- Reviews incident reports to determine extent of risk and safety management factors.
- Investigates or coordinates investigations and prepares report of findings and corrective action needed.
- Coordinates safety and risk management programs with the Quality Assurance section to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and other regulatory requirements pertaining to safety and risk management.
- Works with facility managers and supervisors to ensure the implementation of corrective action plans. Monitors and follows up on corrective action.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Risk Management Safety Officer
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Six months experience in program design, implementation and monitoring of compliance for regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Six months experience in descriptive statistics such as the mean, median, mode or standard deviation.
Additional Job Requirements for Department of Health and Social Services:
- Six months experience in facility clinical risk management programs.
