PIPELINE & MAPPING MANAGER

Your Role:
The Pipeline team is responsible for providing technical knowledge in relation to ASME B31.8/B31.4, DOT 49 CFR part 192 & 195, and PHMSA regulated projects spanning multiple technical disciplines. Knowledge requirements include survey, construction, regulatory compliance, fluid hydraulics, material mechanics and chemistry, measurement, data communications, and soil science.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of Pipeline Engineers and Mapping Designers for the LDI Business Unit within Tetra Tech.
- Responsible for balancing staff among various projects in the group.
- Responsible for growing and developing talent within the group, including having staff in place to cover all professional engineering (PE) needs, in conjunction with HR to hire needed personnel.
- Ensure group is meeting project needs and maintaining quality work that is on schedule and within budget.
- Possess skills required to interface with clients, existing or new, and “sale” the group’s abilities to expand the pipeline & mapping workload.
- Assist with proposals for developing budgets and schedules for projects.
- Expected to also have own project work as well as mentor/develop less experienced engineers, designers, and drafters.
- Ability to resolve conflicts between team members and disciplines as needed.
- Ability to interface with clients and resolve project issues.
- Act as a technical resource to help provide workable solutions to clients and engineering disciplines.
- Maintain discipline schedule and manpower forecast.
- In addition to the department manager tasking, act as a project lead that has the following responsibilities:
- Ability to lead a discipline engineering team on projects with some guidance; supervise design personnel and other staff specialists.
- Review and check designs; assist in the development of design guides, guide specifications and design control procedures.
- Perform engineering calculations and hydraulic analysis models for projects as needed.
- Serve as the lead Engineer or technical expert on any project. Plan and manage the engineering activities on a project.
- Maintain the schedule and budget of assigned projects.
- Conduct engineering tasks while supervising work for the pipeline team.
- Interface with other disciplines, vendors, clients, and contractors.
- Prepare specifications detailing performance requirements, specific components, design requirements, applicable design codes, and vendor drawing requirements.
- Visit vendor facilities and jobsites as necessary.
- Prepare inquiry and purchase requisitions, bid tabulations on simple purchases, and review vendor drawings for compliance with specifications.
- Demonstrate a focus on least cost, safe design.
- Technical requirements to handle and/or oversee include:
- Fluid hydraulics (steady state and transient)
- Line Sizing
- Surge/Hammer Analysis
- Pigging procedures
- Ability to learn multiple software suites
- DOT location classifications
- Spill Studies
- Metering
- SCADA systems
- Cathodic Protection
- Survey and Alignment Sheet coordination
- Procedures – Construction, welding, hot tap/tie-in, pressure testing, etc.
- Emphasis on clear technical reporting for all work performed.
Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) in any state with NCEES Record desired.
- Preferred: ABET accredited Institution – BS in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years in engineering: field experience, experience working in the oil and gas industry (desired) or onshore gas processing, hydrocarbon storage and transportation, chemical manufacturing, or refining.
- Experience as the lead engineer on small and medium multi-discipline projects.
- VMG Symmetry hydraulic analysis simulation software experience preferred.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $200,000 depending on level of experience, education and location.
