Controller – Your Job Duties:
You will work in both a strategic and hands-on capacity overseeing the accounting operations of the primary not-for-profit entity, along with several other ancillary entities, using QuickBooks online ERP. You will:
- Oversee the accounting team (including accounts payable and payroll, team of 3-4) including directly overseeing work performed, serving as escalation point for complex accounting matters, mentoring, performance reviews, input regarding staffing decisions and serving as back up when there are absences.
- Perform procedures for monthly financial statement close, including overseeing journal entries, reconciliation and close process (4 entities).
- Prepare financial statement reporting packages for several entities (4 entities).
- Compile and prepare the annual budget along with the COO and management team.
- Perform monthly budget-to-actual monitoring, providing budget reporting to department leaders and discussing department performance as compared to budget.
- Serve as primary point of contact for third-party auditors related to audit and tax matters and to provide requested information throughout the audit.
- Serve as primary contact for banking, insurance broker and other third-party relationships.
- Identify processes that could be improved with additional efficiencies / workflow overhauls, bringing the process improvement to the team and implementing the change.
Controller - You Have (Required Skills, Experience):
- You are a leader that enjoys both overseeing and rolling up your sleeves to perform daily GAAP accounting functions.
- You are skilled and experienced in performing a month end close and generating a financial statement package under GAAP accounting.
- You enjoy mentoring, motivating and working with a team that wants to learn from you!
- You bring a continuous improvement mindset to identify improvements in the accounting function.
- Ability to work in office in Downtown Sacramento (flexible schedule, hybrid option may be available).
Controller – You Might Have (Desired, Not Required):
- Prior experience with not-for-profit accounting / accounting and reporting for 501(c)3 or (c)4 entities in an in-house role or public accounting auditor role.
- Experience using the QuickBooks online ERP system.
- CPA license, MBA or CMA license.
For You:
Your compensation will be $115,000 to $145,000 annual salary (plus a pension!).
