HIRING RANGE: $70,074 - $91,986
POSITION PURPOSE:
Oversees the groundskeeping operation, including repair and preventative maintenance for parks, playgrounds, irrigation systems, parking lots, and landscaping around all Apex facilities. Assigns and schedules all work orders for grounds, parks, and trail maintenance and repair. Supervises grounds maintenance specialists as well as part-time employees for grounds maintenance efforts. May assist with capital projects and is responsible for the grounds maintenance budget.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees and assists direct reports in managing work assignments using the work order system.
- Oversees and manages employees within the department, including hiring, orienting, training, supervising, scheduling, mentoring, and evaluating employees.
- Develops, implements, regularly evaluates, and updates departmental policies and procedures.
- Coordinates and oversees projects, reviews and selects bid proposals and contract services, ensures the quality of work performed, and adheres to established project specifications.
- Responsible for and directs trash disposal services.
- Directs, develops, monitors, and complies with the annual ground maintenance operations budget.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining a groundskeeping schedule.
- Oversees the care and maintenance of turf, ornamental plants, trees, and shrubs at all facilities.
- Directs and assists staff in planting new vegetation, spraying, and replacing trees and shrubs.
- Ensures employees utilize safe practices when operating equipment. Plans and budgets for additional or replacement equipment.
- Oversees the application of fertilizer and pesticides on the grounds throughout the district.
- Assists in acquiring bids for contractual grounds maintenance and construction projects.
- May assist with capital improvement projects as assigned by the director of district services and capital improvements.
- Responsible for ongoing maintenance, including emergency scheduling and regular continuing repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.
- Communicates regularly with all grounds maintenance specialists, individually and as a team, to ensure exceptional communication concerning maintenance issues.
- Schedules part-time staff to accomplish tasks to serve the district's needs best and actively monitors the budget for part-time staff to stay within the allowed budget.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
Supervises several full-time ground maintenance specialists and part-time seasonal employees.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and five years of related experience, including supervisory experience. A combination of education and experience may be acceptable. Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working conditions include both office and fieldwork. In the field, work will be in various environments, which may have exposure to hazards, such as confined spaces, loud noise, combustible substances, large and dangerous equipment, inclement weather, icy conditions, and hazardous travel conditions.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Ability to lift 100 lbs. and carry 50 lbs., climb and work from ladders, stand for long periods, walk on uneven ground, and sit for long periods. Ability to use or oversee various hand and power tools necessary for maintenance work. Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move frequently during working hours.
TRAVEL:
Possibility of travel for training. The majority of travel will be throughout the district.
