Overview
Lake Ridge Bank is searching for a Mortgage Underwriter based at our Monona Drive office! The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for underwriting all first mortgage, secondary market and portfolio loans. Must have knowledge of FHLB, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, WHEDA, and mortgage insurance underwriting and compliance guidelines. This position is also responsible for underwriting consumer HELOC and HELOANS according to LRB loan policy. The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for assuring loan policies and procedures are adhered to throughout the loan process.
Responsibilities
Mortgage Underwriting
- Underwrite all first mortgage applications for accuracy, compliance, and according to LRB loan policy and secondary market guidelines
- Validate AUS findings, assets, income, and collateral documentation
- Review Appraisals to ensure valuation is accurate and value is supported
- Review title work and flood determinations
- Communicate with loan officers and processors as needed so all parties are aware of loan status and outstanding conditions
- Assist lending staff with finding solutions to complex underwriting questions and scenarios
Consumer Underwriting
- Verify appropriate application documents are properly executed for new loans
- Confirm LRB lending guidelines are met for loan request
- Validate income, assets, and collateral documentation
- Review title work and flood determinations
- Present educational, procedural, and compliance materials to retail staff as needed
Compliance Monitoring
- Responsible for making timely decisions in accordance with Regulation B
- Perform secondary review of denials when needed
- Ensures accurate HMDA reporting on files worked
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years experience in production underwriting
- Encompass experience is preferred
- Strong understanding of conventional underwriting guidelines is required
- Intimate working knowledge of FNMA DU and FHLMC LPA
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills in order to effectively communicate with associates and clients.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, along with proficient keyboarding skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to make good decisions.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work efficiently, accurately, and independently.
- Willingness to work toward goals and performance standards of the department including the ability to put forth the extra effort necessary to make the department a successful operation: (i.e. working additional hours, attending outside educations programs, etc.)
- Flexibility with hours in order to meet the demands of the department.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English well and speak clearly.
- Ability to maintain confidential client or bank information.
- Demonstrated ability to represent the organization in a professional, positive manner.
This is a full time role between the hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Flexibility in scheduling may be needed on occasion.
