This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.
As part of a passionate team, you will lead a team of structural analysts performing analysis using classical methods and Finite Element Modeling (FEM) in support of the development of the BE-4 rocket engine. You will be an integral part of the Engine Assembly and Structures Integrated Product Team as we drive design, manufacturing, mass, and cost improvements across the engine system. Some hardware you and the team may be responsible for analyzing include: High and low pressure ducts, pressurized lines, gimbals, secondary/ancillary structures and brackets, flexible elements, and bolted joints.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performing detailed hand calcs and FEA of aerospace structures and pressurized systems for new designs, design improvements, and for non-conforming hardware.
- Effectively and constructively collaborate with team members from various fields and backgrounds, providing inputs for design development activities and trade studies.
- Authoring and peer reviewing structural analysis reports to support release of engineering drawings and documents.
- Supporting test plan development to verify requirements and generate material and structural data necessary to establish confidence in design solutions.
- Tracking and reporting on progress and technical status of analysis activities.
- Providing technical mentorship on structural analysis and design concepts to junior analysts and design engineers.
- Establishing tools and processes to simplify analysis and allow for quick iteration/analysis of designs.
- Driving standard analysis approaches within the team.
Minimum Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in structural analysis using commercial FEA tools and hand-calcs.
- Experience with structural analysis of pressurized components, secondary/ancillary hardware, fluid lines/ducts, and/or similar high-performance hardware.
- Solid understanding of structural analysis/mechanics, Statics, Fatigue, Fracture, Dynamics.
- Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications.
- Ability to be self-directed, balance several tasks simultaneously, and delegate work across a team of analysts.
- Ability to communicate analysis results effectively.
- Ability to work in teams.
- B.S. degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Propulsion Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of ANSYS Mechanical/Workbench.
- Knowledge of at least one programming/scripting language (Python/MATLAB/etc.).
- Experience with structural modeling of aerospace or other high-performance primary and secondary structures.
- Experience leading engineering teams.
Compensation Range for:
CA applicants is $136,467.00-$191,053.80; WA applicants is $136,467.00-$191,053.80.
Other site ranges may differ.
