Job Description
Real Estate Portfolio Accountant. Multi-company environment with a position that offers exceptional growth for a person seeking professional development; fast-paced in a high-profile position.
Essential Functions:
- Review monthly property financials prepared by third-party property management.
- Communicate and interact with third-party property management team.
- Work with property management to obtain variance report narrative and provide month over month, quarterly, and annual analysis.
- Create and maintain property financial dashboards. Maintain balance sheet reconciliation for all properties on a monthly basis.
- Note exceptions, trends, extreme over/under budget conditions.
- Monitor and report debt service coverage ratios for properties with such covenants.
- Monitor tenant AR details for non-payments, delayed payments, and other irregularities, and assist Asset Management in identifying collection issues.
- Track assigned property budgets to identify and discuss any cost/budget issues with Asset Management.
- Review/prepare and propose property-related journal entries to accurately account for all costs.
- Assist with preparation of year-end work papers for properties to facilitate audit and tax return preparation.
- Prepare and engage best practices for property accounting analysis.
- Provide ad hoc analysis and reporting as needed.
- Assist Asset Management Department with special accounting tasks.
- Work and collaborate with accounting, asset management, and third-party property manager teammates.
Requirements:
- BA or BS in Accounting, Finance, or related fields.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience in Commercial or Industrial Real Estate accounting or experience in accrual-based accounting for residential properties.
- Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and fixed asset accounting.
- Demonstrated experience with preparing financial statements and monthly variance analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Technical skills required – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, NetSuite.
- Understanding of real estate tax issues.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team-based environment.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Planning and organizational skills.
- Yardi experience preferred.
Salary: $90,000 - $115,000
