Position Summary:
The Nursing Supervisor has the administrative responsibility for the overall coordination of nursing services during an assigned off-shift, such as evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the efficient coordination of patient placement and flow, effectively communicating with appropriate Nurse Managers about issues that arise in their absence, and serving as an administrative, clinical, and educational resource to the patient care staff.
Major Responsibilities:
- Serves as the administrative authority responsible for quality nursing care and the smooth function of all nursing units on an assigned shift.
- Directs all bed management/flow activities.
- Leads bed management and efficient bed placement, actively managing patient flow to ensure reduced boarding time in ED.
- Monitors the quality of nursing services and receives reports throughout the shift.
- Performs rounds to assure efficient patient flow and high-quality, safe patient care.
- Addresses and resolves urgent concerns, patient and family complaints during the shift.
- Coordinates the transition of operations upon shift changes.
- Assures proper staffing is in place and coordinates with Nurse Managers for optimal staff allocation.
- Provides advice and counsel to nursing staff for emergencies and medical management.
- Leads appropriate action in emergency situations.
- Maintains knowledge of trends and techniques in nursing.
- Directs staff response to emergencies.
- Notifies Nursing Managers of staff learning needs.
- Assists Nursing Managers in completing performance evaluations.
- Addresses urgent employee issues and administers personnel action as needed.
- Interacts with the electronic staffing and scheduling system.
- Coordinates the replenishment of supplies during the shift.
- Participates in process improvement initiatives.
- Maintains a collaborative team relationship with peers.
- Demonstrates excellent attendance and participates in meetings and training.
- Communicates ideas effectively and shares information.
- Adheres to the Hospital Code of Conduct and Behavior Standards.
- Maintains an organized, clean, and safe work environment.
- Respects diverse views and contributes to professionalism and acceptance.
Position Qualifications:
The ability to supervise a nursing shift at a busy community hospital, excellent knowledge of nursing practices, regulatory and legislative requirements, and strong problem-solving and organizing skills.
Must be a graduate of a recognized school of Nursing; a Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred.
5 years of clinical nursing experience and demonstrated skill in a team leader role. ACLS Required.
Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse License is Required.
