The Cornish+ program is seeking a passionate and skilled Choir Instructor to work with our Cornish+ Choir Director to lead a diverse group of singers ranging in age from 6 to 70+. The Cornish+ Choir is a multigenerational choir with sectionals throughout the city that culminate with a final joint performance at the end of 10 weeks. Cornish+ Choir is open to people of all musical backgrounds, ranging from never sung before, to accomplished musicians. The repertoire is taught by ear, with the lyrics projected; no previous musical background is required to be part of the Cornish+ Choir. As the instructor, you will be responsible for learning the chosen repertoire, following along with a weekly lesson plan from the Director, and leading engaging rehearsals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular choir rehearsals, including warm-up exercises, and ensemble singing sessions.
- Provide constructive feedback to develop skills and confidence of the group.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere within the choir, encouraging collaboration, teamwork, and mutual respect among members.
- Maintain regular communication with choir members and parents, regarding rehearsals, performances, and any relevant updates or announcements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or related field (preferred).
- Demonstrated proficiency in piano and ability to sing along with the choir when needed (preferred).
- Proven experience leading choirs or vocal ensembles, with the ability to manage a large group of all ages.
- Demonstrable and effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the proven ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
- Evidenced passion for community engagement and music education with a commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all choir members.
- Verifiable organizational skills and attention to detail, with the proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to accommodate the needs and preferences of choir members and the broader community.
Job Type: Part-time schedule: hours ranging from 2:30pm to 5:30pm during the week
Compensation: $1,050 to $3,150, depending on the number of sectionals; calculated at $105.00/hour
