The role you’ll contribute:
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Director is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating nursing care within the areas of responsibility with 24-hour accountability. Responsible for assuring that the department safety, quality and fiscal outcomes are achieved in coordination with staff, surgeons, and hospital leadership. The Director is responsible for coordinating departmental processes and achieving approved metrics which will support growth and patient, family, staff and surgeon satisfaction.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must identify and facilitate resolution of issues involving staff, physicians, patients, families and out of department conflicts in a fair and consistent manner.
Oversees development and implementation of strategies for accomplishing departmental and organizational objectives.
Develops and maintains effective departmental communication through regular staff meetings. Facilitates the flow of information from and to department and administration.
Fosters an environment of service excellence for patients, families, physicians and staff.
Reviews labor management reports and ensures that established goals are met.
Develops and implements strategic and business plans when presenting operational investments with capital request and/or physical growth.
Demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to safety and legal requirements as established by governing and regulatory agencies.
Maintains current knowledge of regulatory and licensure requirements and ensures compliance with regulations.
Ensures that the selection, educating, staffing and disciplining of staff members complies with the standards, policies and practices of Advent Health.
Evaluates the learning needs of individuals within the department. Assures in-services and other training programs meet identified needs and assures patient safety.
Promotes competency of staff and call readiness through proper orientation, skills validation and education.
Ensures departmental files are maintained accurately and completed in compliance with established Advent Health standards.
Completes Talent Care and performance appraisals for all positions of responsibility.
Develops, implements and reviews policies, procedures and protocols for area of responsibility using up to date research and references from AORN and AAMI standards.
Verifies the proper temperature, humidity, ventilation and lighting are maintained to provide a comfortable and safe environment. Works with Facilities to make needed adjustments and documents accordingly.
Demonstrates competency in principles of performance improvement and develops, implements and evaluates the PI program developed within area of responsibility.
Monitors coordination of activities between hospital departments for effective operations.
Demonstrates responsibility for appropriate use of departmental equipment and supplies required in standard of care.
Complies with policies and procedures of Advent Health Redmond and Advent Health Corporate.
Participates in and regularly attends hospital based assigned committees.
Daily, reviews core staffing plans based on surgery census and makes adjustments as needed to meet productivity.
Makes regular rounds throughout the OR and Central Sterile to assess patient care, ensure delivery of quality patient care and ensure service excellence standards are met.
Daily, greets staff and shows a positive attitude when performing morning and afternoon Huddle. Works to constantly re-recruit the OR and Central Sterile team.
Serves as a role model demonstrating competency in clinical judgement, technical and mentoring skills and knowledge-based practice. Provides staff advice and assistance regarding clinical judgement.
In collaboration with Department of Surgery Chair, COO and Executive Director of Surgical Services, participates in Surgical Governance Committee.
Collaborates with Anesthesia Chair and Co-chair to facilitate on-going day to day operations and coverage of the surgery schedule along with non-OR sites of care.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
Ability to demonstrate the mission and values of Advent Health.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership, team development and strong written and oral communication skills.
Positive business demeanor and ability to establish and maintain rapport with hospital staff, physicians and leadership team.
Ability to use various software programs including but not limited to Electronic Medical Record and Microsoft Office systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or currently enrolled in program.
At minimum, 5 years of OR leadership experience.
At minimum, 5 years of experience in surgical nursing.
