Job Summary:
The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for developing and implementing analytical processes and tools for the financial components of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler (UTHSCT) and UT Health East Texas Physician Practice Plans. Overall, the Senior Financial Analyst adds value by analyzing and monitoring physician’s and residents’ financial metrics and productivity, tracking and trending physician’s compensation to support timely and accurate payment, providing decision support analysis to be used by management to facilitate informed decisions about physician compensation, creating executive quality management presentations, and generating valuable insights and transparency for the physician practice plan and functions of the institution and the UT Health East Texas enterprise.
Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Prepares, analyzes, and summarizes timely and accurate financial and statistical reports for UTHSCT and UT Health East Texas Physicians administration, as well other UTHSCT senior leaders, including but not limited to the areas of finance, planning, and strategy.
- Identifies and implements requirements of and best practices related to the financial goals and objectives of UTHSCT’s MSRDP compensation plan and physician master services agreement with UT Health East Texas.
- Designs, updates, and maintains physician productivity reports using EMR, RVU, MGMA, patient scheduling, payroll, contracts, memorandums of appointment, residency program scheduling and supervision, and personnel action form data, among other inputs.
- Coordinates financial/statistical project implementation with all impacted departments, while reporting resolutions and modifications to executive leadership.
- Delivers board-review ready financial summaries to executive leadership for both UT Health Science Center Tyler and UT Health East Texas administration.
- Coordinates with UT Health East Texas and joint venture senior leadership to ensure alignment with compensation structures for physicians are based on fair market value (“fmv”).
- Tracks and trends physician compensation monthly and generates appropriate documents to ensure timely and accurate payment.
- Assists with the identification and implementation of enhancements to financial and analytics processes and procedures, requiring a combination of existing and acquired proficiency with PeopleSoft Financials, PeopleSoft Human Capital and Management System, Microsoft Office Suite, Epic, and similar systems.
- Assists leadership with the preparation of financial pro forms for physician recruitment.
- Supports EMR, physician practice management suite, and financial systems implementations and upgrades in collaboration with both functional and IT specialists through efficient project management.
- Analyzes a variety of financial, budgetary, productivity, and statistical information for the physician practice and professionally summarizes results in charts, graphs, and reports, applying judgment to determine data points of interest to the given audience.
- Examines historical and projected financial data to provide senior management with valuable data upon which to make relevant financial decisions for the physician practice plan.
- Serves as a resource to the MSRDP Faculty Compensation Advisory Committee and to physicians and other providers by meeting and corresponding with them to review compensation inputs and outputs, discuss anomalies, and answer questions about compensation structures and payments.
- Examines financial and operational issues and potential impacts that arise and identifies and proposes solutions to address these issues.
- Performs ad hoc financial analysis, revenue and cost estimates, and forecasts in support of institutional strategies and decisions.
- Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

- Demonstrated expertise in the use of financial systems and a proficiency in the use, advancement, and application of technology and ability to gain proficiency with financial, budgetary, and productivity systems specific to the institution.
- Demonstrated professionalism, sensitivity, and discretion in handling confidential information.
- Intermediate or above proficiency with Microsoft Office products, primarily with Excel, must have demonstrated quantitative skills.
- Knowledge of and experience in analyzing physician compensation models and facility with data that influences these models, such as RVU and MGMA data.
- Knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting principles, systems, procedures, and standards.
Required Education / Experience:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Five (5) years of experience in a combination of financial analysis, accounting, financial operations, and/or systems.
Experience with healthcare and physician compensation.
May accept a combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education / Experience:
Standard office environment.
