POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting Director is to support the Food Bank’s mission and vision through leadership and management of government grant preparation and submission, financial reporting, internal controls and accounting functions (general ledger). This position also plays a key leadership role in the annual budgeting process under the direct supervision of the Chief Financial Officer.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, DUTIES AND SKILLS
- Maintain effective internal controls to assure compliance with GAAP Non-profit Accounting and non-profit state and federal tax laws.
- Maintain effective internal controls for SEFA reporting and compliance.
- Coordinate grant budgets, budget amendments, budget change forms and related documents.
- Manage financial records, prepare financial reports and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly reports reflecting expenditures and reimbursement.
- Ensure compliance with grant/contract specific guidelines including submission of financial reports and completion documents as required by specific grant.
- Serve as primary fiscal contact for grant sub-recipients and funders.
- Ensure a robust system of internal controls surrounding all accounting functions, including those outside the accounting department.
- Financial management and reporting including appropriate consolidations for multiple departments, programs and resource centers.
- Coordinate preparation of schedules and completion of the audit, the annual 990, and the annual Network Activity Report (NAR).
- Ensure response to external and internal inquiries, work with constituents to develop and customize reporting.
- Coordinate the annual insurance renewal process, including ensuring the preparation of necessary schedules, the payment of premiums, managing claims and requests for certificates of insurance.
- Monitor investment accounts and prepare monthly activity reporting.
- Lead monthly budget-vs-actual reporting and variance analysis working with department managers on corrective action plans as needed.
- Design and implement the annual budget process and develop the annual budget through collaboration with the CFO, Senior Leadership Team and all responsible department managers.
- Determine and implement workflow necessary to meet deadlines.
- Perform ad hoc requests and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- College degree in relevant field and equivalent work experience, CPA a plus.
- Experience with GAAP Non-profit Accounting, non-profit state and federal tax laws.
- Financial Process improvement and system implementation experience a plus.

- Exceptional collaboration skills. Ability to work with staff at all organizational levels and serve as thought partner to CFO and Senior Leaders.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work multiple projects concurrently.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Business Solutions, NAV or other ERP system.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications - Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Jet Reports experience a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position works in an office environment and requires sitting at a computer for prolonged periods of time.
