SUMMARY
The Accounting Manager plays a pivotal role in the success of our financial operations. This position requires an experienced accounting professional with strong leadership skills, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of fiscal management. You will oversee all aspects of accounting operations, provide strategic financial guidance, and collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to support the Foundation's mission and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Manage the day-to-day accounting activities of the Foundation, including accounts payable, general ledger entries, bank, investment, pledge, trust, and other account reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of financial transactions in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), regulatory requirements, and Foundation policies.
- Collaborate with campus partners to provide financial insights and support their cash flow forecasting and use of donor funds.
- Prepare financial forecasts, variance analyses, and financial projections to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
- Review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and preparation of tax returns to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
- Maintain awareness of relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and compliance requirements applicable to nonprofit organizations and foundations.
- Supervise and coordinate accounting department workload/deliverables to ensure timely delivery of results.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to foster professional growth and development.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to facilitate projects and optimize processes, while managing timeline, resources, workload, and change management.
- Partner with Controller to work towards department strategic objectives.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in projects as needed.
- Participate in ongoing training, education, and staff meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a nonprofit organization or public accounting firm serving nonprofit clients.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite products.
- Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail, with the ability to interpret financial data and trends.
- Effective communication and people skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with a record of managing teams and driving results.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This job is conducted in an office work environment, sitting most of the time.
- Approximately 90% of this position’s duties require use of a computer.
- Must be able to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally.
- Some travel may be required.
