After approximately three months in our Chicago-based Commercial Banking Training Program, you will join CIBC’s Denver Regional Commercial Banking team to provide support to account teams through client acquisition, relationship management and credit management processes as well as providing transactional support for client specific financing solutions. This role will prepare you for a rewarding career as either a Relationship Manager or Portfolio Manager. You will be committed to delivering on flexible business solutions, along with dedicating business expertise and timely business advice to help clients realize their goals. This individual will play a key role in the preparation of credit requests and provide support to the Relationship Managers. Essential duties include:
- Underwrite credit transactions, and prepare credit requests.
- Analyze financial information and statements.
- Perform market research and financial research regarding the aforementioned credit transactions or the current portfolio.
- Analyze and identify risks associated with various commercial loans.
- Assist with other risk management and product initiatives.
Commercial Banking Training Program
The Commercial Banking Training Program, based in Chicago, Illinois, is a key component to the development of our team of Commercial Bank Relationship Managers and Portfolio Managers. The Program:
- 3-month classroom-based training program
- Taught by professionals from our organization as well as select industry and topic experts
- Classroom phase: accounting, finance, credit analysis, business writing, financial modeling, relevant computer skills
- Placement: Upon completion of the classroom phase you will be placed in the Denver Group of Regional Commercial Banking.
- The program is designed to provide you with the skills you will need throughout your professional career, including sales, learning how to build your professional brand, and negotiation training. At the same time, you will gain real-world experience working alongside seasoned commercial middle market bankers. You will gain in-depth product knowledge in the areas of financing, treasury management, private banking, foreign exchange and derivatives.
- Individuals in the program are full-time employees and eligible for company benefits.
How you’ll succeed
- Business development support: Assist Relationship Managers in coordinating activities and liaising with other partners of CIBC as necessary. Assist with the execution of business development initiatives by working in partnership with the client team to provide financing solutions to meet the needs of the client.
- Research & evaluation: Assist in evaluating relationship growth opportunities through comprehensive client and market research. Prepare analyses in support of credit submissions including structuring and documentation.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary of $72,500 for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
