Our religious focused non-profit is looking for a new sole contributor accountant! This is a great opportunity to manage the finances of the organization, while making a meaningful difference in the Bellingham community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement policies, systems and processes serving the organization’s accounting, payroll and human resource functions and needs.
- Engage with third-parties as an agent of the organization, representing the employer, employees, volunteers, customers and members.
- Identify opportunities for policy and process development supporting fiscal stewardship and the organization’s values.
- Prepare and present financial statements at the membership’s annual business meeting.
- Research and interpret the rules, regulations and offerings connected to federal, state and local agencies impacting the organization and its stakeholders.
- Identify, monitor, and comply with reporting deadlines from a variety of sources.
- Supply requested information and analysis to assist in organization-wide decision making.
- Reconcile data from multiple sources by identifying, investigating and resolving variances or inconsistencies.
- Summarize, analyze, and present monthly giving analysis reports to management and governance.
- Develop and distribute templates, instructions and other materials facilitating transaction reporting and processing.
- Collaborate with divisional and departmental leads and connect the practical application of the organization’s procedures to business and ministry opportunities.
- Support the employee compensation evaluation and selection processes.
- Support the governing body through representation at Finance Committee meetings.
- Engage in continuous and proactive learning opportunities, staying current and informed in a continuously changing environment.
- Lead the search and implementation of a new accounting information system.
- Provide support and coverage for the Human Resources Coordinator position.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Four-year bachelor’s degree in Business Administration preferred.
- Five years of progressive work experience in an accounting-focused role.
- Practical application within a financial accounting role, specific to:
- Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP);
- Accrual accounting;
- Double-entry bookkeeping; and
- Financial reporting.
- Accurate and proficient data entry skills.
- Proficient in software and technology use, including but not limited to:
- QuickBooks Desktop and payroll module,
- Microsoft Office suite,
- Shared drive platforms like GoogleDrive,
- Internet browsers, and
- Online banking and third-party transaction processors.
- Intermediate level of Excel proficiency, including but not limited to:
- Advanced formula usage,
- Data sorting and filtering, and
- Pivot table creation and manipulation.
