Summary: Reporting to the First VP-Business Banking, the VP Team Leader Business Banking is responsible for leading a team of Business Banking Officers and Business Development Officers to achieve business goals established for the team. The Team Leader Business Banking will focus on the coaching and development of the team to ensure they are proficient in soliciting new and expanding existing business relationships of high quality within the bank’s market area, as well as contributing to the results of the team. Primary responsibility will be to develop new deposit and credit relationships with businesses with revenues less than $5,000,000 and credit needs of $1,000,000 or less.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Lead a team responsible for prospecting and networking in an assigned territory to develop new long-term relationships for the bank through a consultative selling approach.
- Identify and develop credit, deposit and cash management sales opportunities independently to new and existing customers through a consultative approach.
- Respond quickly and professionally to internal and external leads.
- Collaborate with others to accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
- Coordinate new deposit products with Banking Centers or CM Support.
- Coordinate needs analysis and sales presentation with CM Sales.
- Follow up with clients to ensure proper compliance in necessary documentation.
- Prepare, monitor, and accomplish business lending needs and underwriting process.
- Work collaboratively with others to accomplish tasks of greater complexity.
- Exercise discretion and resolve complex issues.
- Collaborate to develop and implement sales strategies.
- Create, update and maintain prospect lists of potential new business customers.
- Respond to new credit opportunities or related requests within the portfolio. Interview the borrower, collect and analyze credit information. Recommend credit approval or denial for loan requests. Compile loan package and facilitate negotiation of loan structure with applicant, including fees, loan repayment options, and other credit terms.
- Work with FVP – Business Banking and counterparts to develop and implement sales strategies independently or in conjunction with Business Banking and Business Development Officers, Commercial Lending Officers, Cash Management and/or Retail Banking Center staff.
- Develop and implement calling plan to attract new business customers.
- Manage a portfolio of business loan relationships. Includes customer services, maintaining credit and collateral files, and monitoring credits for delinquency and deterioration. Work with First VP- Business Banking to maintain appropriate risk ratings and take active steps necessary to reduce loan losses.
- Provide management with statistical reports, advanced analytical and strategic support as needed.
- Maintain awareness and knowledge of competitive products, rates and fees and regularly update the First VP- Business Banking.
- Lead, mentor and provide ongoing support of Business Banking Officers and Business Development Officers within the Business Banking group in order to enhance their skills and strengthen the overall talent of the Business Banking Group.
- Collaborate with Retail Banking Center partners to provide education about Business Banking to strengthen their business development skills and build their confidence when working with prospects and customers.
- Assist with oversight and facilitation of Retail Referral Program in support of partnership between Business Banking Group and Retail Banking Centers.
- Complete all yearly compliance training and testing and comply with bank, federal, and state regulations. Comply with Bank Policies and Procedures. Adhere to departmental and bank-wide service standards.
- Actively participate in a wide range of civic and community events to cultivate relationships and promote Bank’s interest.
- Ability to travel and work in assigned territory to build new customer relationships.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree; four to six years demonstrated progressive experience in similar/equivalent role in business/commercial banking sales.
Skills needed:
- Advanced Credit skills/knowledge necessary in order to evaluate, structure, and manage commercial lending relationships.
- Superior knowledge of all banking products in order to develop new credit and deposit relationships.
- Superior knowledge of industry rates and fees, and ability to present findings to senior management.
- Ability to perform detailed analyses, and understand problems of high complexity.
- Superior customer support skills to handle complex customer relationships in a timely and efficient manner.
