Vaulted Deep Project Finance Consultant
Remote·Contractor
Consult with Vaulted to lead the scoping of securing project finance for new CDR facilities.
Description
Project Finance Consultant (short term contract, potential to turn into a long-term role)
Location: Remote/flexible, with preference for San Francisco or Houston.
Timing: Roughly 1 month, starting ASAP (Late October, to end of November). Roughly ~10 hours a week.
About Vaulted
Vaulted is an emerging leader in permanent carbon removal. As a Biomass Carbon Removal and Storage (BiCRS) solution, Vaulted delivers permanent, high quality carbon removal at scale through the geologic sequestration of carbon-filled organic waste.
Vaulted’s approach is designed to be the lowest cost, gigaton scale, permanent carbon removal. We sequester sludgy organic wastes (biosolids, manure, agricultural, food waste, paper sludge, etc.) that today are sent to a landfill, dumped into an ocean/river, land applied, or otherwise left to decompose, releasing Green House Gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere.
About the Role
Vaulted is seeking an experienced Project Finance Consultant, coming in on a consulting-project basis, to lead the scoping of securing project finance for new CDR facilities. Key responsibilities include:
- Scope Project Finance Option Set: Identify and evaluate diverse financing structures (e.g., equipment finance, project debt and equity, mezzanine, etc) tailored to Vaulted’s project goals, with a clear understanding of their financial and operational impacts.
- Analyze Non-Standard Carbon Credit Offtake Agreements: Understand and communicate how Vaulted’s unique carbon credit offtake structures will affect our ability to secure different types of project finance, ensuring alignment with lender expectations.
- Engage with Lenders: Leverage existing networks to introduce Vaulted to lenders, helping scope market offerings and negotiate favorable terms for financing.
- Assess Risk and Mitigation: Conduct a comprehensive project finance risk assessment for our projects, outlining key terms to watch as term sheets are negotiated.
- Advise in Term Sheet Negotiations: Collaborate with Vaulted’s leadership to review term sheets with financial institutions and carbon offtake customers, ensuring terms support our project’s long-term success.
What You Will Bring
The ideal candidate will provide strategic guidance on securing project finance, leveraging industry networks, and ensuring our unique revenue streams, such as carbon credit offtake agreements, align with financing opportunities. We’re seeking a candidate with:
- 5+ years of work experience in project finance for heavy industry and/or climate tech facilities, including a mix of project level debt, equity, and equipment finance. Ideally experience working on facilities with >$10M in CAPEX needs.
- Experience in securing project financing for facilities relying on carbon credits on the VCM, especially those relying on long-term offtake contracts without locked terms on price and volume.
- Nice to have – experience securing Development Security / line of credit for banks.
There is potential opportunity for this consulting role to be parlayed into a long-term finance role, most likely Head of Finance, at Vaulted Deep. Will depend on candidate background and consulting work performance.
Location flexible for the consulting work. For longer-term role, strong preference for candidates in San Francisco, CA or Houston, TX.
