Overview
The Diabetes Educator identifies patient needs and priorities for education based on assessment for the pediatric patient population. Must apply in-depth knowledge of diabetes in the care of infants, children, and adolescent patients and their families. Provide education and consultation on the management and/or prevention of diabetes.
Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Possess a current Alabama State Registered Nurses License. Current CPR certification. ACLS certification preferred. Requires diabetic registration and licensure or nursing licensure within the provisional period. Must be a Certified Diabetes Educator or working toward certification in diabetes education within the provisional period.
Experience: 2 years of experience in the field of diabetes care and education is preferred.
Additional Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.
- Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
- Skill in writing and maintaining records and reports.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, employees, and staff.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Knowledge of the organization’s policies and procedures.
- Upholds effective work habits including, but not limited to, regular attendance, teamwork, initiative, dependability, and promptness.
