Job Title: Surgical Technologist - Labor and Delivery
Location: Temple, TX
Shift: Full-Time, 12-Hour Night Shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM), 3 Shifts Per Week (36 Hours Total)
Salary Range: $25.00 - $36.00 per hour, based on experience
Sign-On Bonus: $10,000 with Relocation Assistance Available
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our Labor and Delivery department on the night shift. In this role, you will work closely with the obstetric and surgical teams, ensuring that all instruments, supplies, and equipment are properly prepared and maintained for safe and efficient patient care. With 11 labor rooms and 3 operating rooms in the unit, this is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dedicated team supporting new life in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures, ensuring sterile supplies and instruments are set up appropriately based on the procedure schedule
- Assist in scrubbing into surgeries and ensure instruments are properly prepared for the surgeon prior to their scrub-in
- Maintain sterile fields and pass instruments and supplies to the surgical team during procedures
- Perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments according to established protocols
- Prepare the operative site by aseptically cleaning and clipping the patient as necessary
- Handle surgical specimens and ensure proper labeling and documentation before passing them to the circulating nurse
- Assist with patient draping, positioning, and surgical dressings post-operation
- Clean, decontaminate, and prepare soiled surgical instruments for sterilization
- Ensure compliance with infection control, AORN, and OSHA guidelines to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
- Maintain inventory of surgical instruments and supplies, ensuring proper stocking and documentation
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program (CAAHEP or nationally accredited)
- 1 year of experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred
- Experience in obstetrics and gynecology is highly preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (or must obtain within 30 days of hire)
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from NBSTSA or NCCT required, or completion of military/public health surgical tech training, or employed in a surgical tech role prior to September 1, 2009
