Utilizing the Nursing Process, the Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing patients and identifying nursing diagnoses to plan, implement a plan of care, and evaluate patient outcomes. Collaborates with the Multi-Disciplinary Team and utilizes critical thinking skills to solve problems, communicate, and use reflective judgment. Participates in and contributes to unit activities, including patient satisfaction, customer satisfaction, and regulatory & accreditation compliance.

Associate Degree in Nursing - Required
Experience
1-2 Years Nursing - Required
License & Certification
Registered Nurse License with State of Practice – Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
Core Job Functions
- Utilize the nursing process per the scope and standards for oncology nursing practice.
- Document all patient-related clinical information and assess patients for special needs, planning appropriate interventions. Comprehensive review of the patient's medical history is performed and documented.
- Utilize Teach Back technique to assess understanding of education. Assess needs for discharge and the best way to provide instruction to the patient. Utilize appropriate written communication, education packets, and/or audio-video instructions. Teach back performed with patients to facilitate patient outcome improvements by increasing knowledge and skills needed to improve healthy behaviors. Elicit information using effective counseling techniques. Identify factors that might affect communication or learning.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of policies and procedures of the Hospital as well as Standards of Practice for the specialty area. Obtain Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification within 6 months. Exercise independent judgment in the assessment of patients' needs and identify clinical priorities throughout the Infusion suite. Respond appropriately to resolving issues that impact patient care.
- Assure fiscal compliance related to patient billing and coding. Correctly bill patients for services and accurately document to support charges.
Complete mandatory educational requirements in a timely manner. Assist Outpatient Infusion Manager, Professional Development Coordinator/Educators in planning and presenting unit-based in-services. Complete annual competencies for Infusion administration and Nursing.
- Respond to patient requests and proactively address patient needs using a multi-disciplinary approach. Work with the unit team to address patient satisfaction scores and collaborate with unit leadership to develop and implement action plans.
