Wage Range: $42.40 - $68.14 per hour. The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation, such as shift differentials and premiums may be available for this role. JOB SUMMARY:
Adheres to all Hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital’s Art of Caring principles and Standards of Excellence. Produces mammography images using established positioning and technical factors. Educates patients on breast self-examination. May perform and document weekly mammography QA as instructed by Mammography Lead and/or Manager in accordance with departmental protocols. Maintains current required continuing education, licensure, and registry. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide age-specific treatment and care. Assists in preparation of required inspections.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
Graduate of an AMA approved school of radiologic technology and current Washington State Radiology Technologist (RT) license. Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) and ARRT (Mammo) registration. Minimum of six months current experience in mammography.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Functional with designated radiation emitting, processing and record retrieval equipment. Functional with dedicated mammography radiation emitting equipment. Functional with computers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:
Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable disease, radiation, processor chemicals, and risk of physical injury from lifting patients and operation of equipment. May be exposed to labeled bio-hazard substances and infectious material. Adheres to all state and federal regulations pertaining to exposure to hazardous materials and BBP.
WORK CONTACT GROUP:
All hospital departments, patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel, and medical staff.
SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and transfer and transport patients. Must be able to bend, stoop, push, and pull. Walks and stands for most of the working day. Must possess visual, tactile touch and manual dexterity. Must be able to communicate in the English language.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TECHNICAL:
- Operates equipment correctly per vendor guidelines and departmental policy.
- Consistently produces high-quality images and interprets technical quality of images as related to quality assurance standards.
- Demonstrates accurate and efficient patient positioning while ensuring patient safety.
- Monitors work schedule and patient flow continuously to minimize patient delays.
- Provides patient care (ensures that patient is properly clothed and draped for procedure, explains procedure to the patient, explains and directs breathing instructions and repositioning during the procedure, questions patients of childbearing age about menstrual cycle and/or possible pregnancy).
- Performs tasks (filing, answering telephone, documenting patient quality care) as appropriate.
- Maintains cleanliness and safety (washes hands prior to and after each patient contact, adheres to infection control and isolation policies, wears a film badge and turns in for periodic evaluations, and exercises necessary radiation protection to patients, self, and all other personnel).
- Maintains supplies and equipment (maintains adequate stock of supplies, takes inventory, orders supplies, maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment, disinfects equipment after each patient contact, and inspects the working order of equipment on a regular basis) to ensure maximum access of department.
- Maintains certification and credentialing in mammography annually.
- Maintains continual regulatory readiness and may perform and document weekly mammography QA as instructed by Mammography Lead and/or Manager in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Maintains continual regulatory readiness by maintaining documents and records in mammography as required by regulatory agencies.
- Identifies patient and/or significant other's need for patient education and provides education.
- Completes department-specific staff competencies per DNV, ACR, MQSA, and hospital policy.
- Communicates mammography patient assessment data and findings to radiologists and other members of the health care team and facilitates appropriate intervention.
- Provides or assists with orientation of new and existing staff as appropriate.
- Demonstrates attitudes and behaviors in interacting with others that are courteous, polite, concerned, friendly, and respectful, resulting in favorable patient, physician, and staff perceptions of the hospital and its employees.
- Updates patient's film history and charges patient account via hospital computer system accurately and in a timely manner.
- Prepares for and ensures annual inspections are successful.
- Remains knowledgeable of all current departmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and UFCW United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 3000.
