Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Using the framework provided by the Massachusetts Nurse of the Future, the Assabet Practical Nursing Program curriculum plan and Student Learning Outcomes; organize, plan, implement, and evaluate assigned nursing classes and labs in cooperation with the course coordinator.
- Provide clinical supervision for up to ten (10) practical nursing students per clinical group in clinical agencies to provide student clinical experiences to complement classroom and laboratory learning. Assist with plans for rotation of students through clinical experiences.
- Coordinate student behavior problems with the Director following handbook policy.
- Maintain attendance and clinical records for assigned students and submit grades and clinical evaluations to the Practical Nursing Director. Counsel students regarding clinical progress; provide or arrange remediation as needed.
- Adhere to clinical agency policies and/or contractual agreements regarding student and faculty practice.
- Complete faculty orientation program for clinical agencies to which assigned. Participate in AVRTHS Mentor Program.
- Be available for extra help and make-up work 24 weeks throughout the program as per union contract. (0.6 FTE employee)
- Hold periodic meetings with representatives of each cooperating agency to evaluate the experience. Such meetings shall be held at least once each year. Submit written agency minutes which shall be retained on file each term.
- Attend faculty meetings as a voting member of curriculum committee, promotions committee, and Program Advisory Committee.
- Review course syllabi and teaching materials in accordance with the Assabet Practical Nursing Program curriculum plan and Student Learning Outcomes of the program.
- Assist with the development of policies and procedures for Practical Nursing Program Handbook.
- Carry out school policies as directed by administration.
- Maintain all Clinical Resource Lab equipment and supplies with respect to safety and housekeeping.
- Assist with the orientation and mentoring of new faculty.
- Continue to improve expertise in nursing and teaching through any one or combination of the following: academic study, clinical practice, certifications, and other appropriate learning activities.
- Establish a collaborative relationship with other school staff and health care agencies.
- Assist in Systematic Evaluation Plan for continuing ACEN accreditation and Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing approval.
- Maintain expertise in program technology.
COMPENSATION: This is a 0.6 FTE position of 112 days. Schedule to be developed by the Program Director to meet the needs of the program. This is an AFT Union, benefited position. Position Type: Part-time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university is required.
- A Master's degree with a major in Nursing from an accredited college or university or current enrollment in an MSN program is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years recent employment in nursing practice, full time or its equivalent within the past 5 years.
- Current Licensure in Massachusetts as an RN.
- Evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical and theoretical instruction and expertise appropriate to teaching responsibilities.
- Active member in a professional nursing organization recommended.
- Experience in curriculum development, use of multimedia teaching strategies, and test construction is preferred.
- Recent teaching experience with adult students preferred. Understanding of and commitment to Practical Nurse Education.
- Meet health standards of clinical agencies, CPR certification, and maintain current liability insurance.
Job Requirements:
- At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Bachelor degree in Nursing required.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
