Summary:
Performs a variety of breast specific screening and diagnostic sonograms in an outpatient setting.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts ultrasound screening, ensuring both the safe function of equipment and pursuing the best quality imaging from the procedure.
- Reads and comprehends imaging order, engaging with radiologist when the order is unclear, complex, or warrants deeper review.
- Interviews patients to understand risk factors and prior medical history components that may warrant a more in-depth examination for safety.
- Selects appropriate scanning protocols and imaging parameters using extensive knowledge of human anatomy, pathology, and the capabilities/limitations of both hardware and specific imaging sequences.
- Guides patients, some distressed, through their examination, applying subject matter expertise and cultural competency to explain the exam. Sets expectations and calms the patient for effective imaging.
- Precepts entry-level staff and orients new colleagues. Collaborate and plan the workday and patient flow with colleagues.
Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of an accredited program in Ultrasound imaging
- A.R.D.M.S. registration required. Must have advanced certification in Breast. This advanced certification is above the initial registry requirement of ABD/OB.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred
- Three (3) years of experience in breast imaging
