Overview
The Pathology Assistant must be experienced in histology, gross dissection, prosection, and frozen section preparation. The employee must be skilled at digital photography. The Pathology Assistant must have excellent teaching skills and the ability to mentor residents and students. Must show good judgment with attention to details as well as respect for patient confidentiality. The Pathology Assistant must work professionally and courteously with physicians, patients, guests, and other employees.
Responsibilities
- Provides gross description of all pathology specimens
- Assists with frozen section processing and staining
- Performs gross dissection of specimens
- Supports frozen section room
- Performs photography of specimens
- Assists with autopsies
- Assists in monitoring quality assurance
- Maintains accurate documentation in LIS and tracking system
- Assists with training and teaching of residents, students, and others
- Assists in maintenance of tissue bank
- Works with others in a professional and courteous manner
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Training: BS in Histology, Cytology, Medical Technology, or other health-related field.
Experience: MS or equivalent experience as a Pathology Assistant preferred. BS in Histology, Cytology, Medical Technology, or other health-related field with at least 5 years of experience working in a Pathology Laboratory. Three (3) years of experience as a Pathologist Assistant preferred but not mandatory.
License & Certification: Pathology Assistant certification preferred but not required.
