Overview
Monitors drug therapy to improve patient outcomes and quality of care, recommends rational and cost-effective pharmacotherapeutic alternatives, and provides accurate and efficient medication distribution. Implements and evaluates nutritional support and pharmacokinetic regimens. Supervises pharmacy technical staff.
Responsibilities
- Determines and recommends the most appropriate and cost-effective drug therapy through a review of patient-specific data and implementation of pharmacy protocols.
- Adequately evaluates patient data for potential drug-drug interactions, allergy data, height, and weight.
- Evaluates assigned Sentri-7 and Phred alerts.
- Adequately documents clinical interventions and prevented medication errors.
- Ensures accuracy and timeliness of medications dispensed through the distribution system.
- Operates Pyxis and CII Safe efficiently.
- Demonstrates an understanding of state and federal laws governing the practice of pharmacy and practices the profession of pharmacy in a professional, legal, and ethical manner.
- Implements and evaluates nutritional support and pharmacokinetic regimens for designated patient populations.
- Provides routine drug information to healthcare providers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited university required.
- Completion of post-graduate pharmacy residency or equivalent clinical experience strongly preferred.
- License to practice pharmacy in Alabama required.
- Proof of current AHA BLS must be provided or obtained by the end of the orientation period.
