The Registered Nurse Float 2 provides safe patient care at a basic level and shows growth in your ability to care for increasingly complex patients. Determines processes for delivery of care from direct patient/family communication, technology, and other healthcare team member collaboration. Manages care and implements treatment plans at a basic skill level in collaboration with patients, their families, and members of the health care delivery team. Consistently provides safe and therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way while incorporating differences into the provision of care. Serves as a resource, preceptor, and mentor while demonstrating leadership skills in decision making and problem solving. Serves as an empowering body to influence patient empowerment as well as successful outcomes of financial and clinical quality through relationships and access-based knowledge. Assignments in Float pool will be limited as deemed appropriate by hiring leader.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships.
- Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
- Supports and empowers patient/families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end-of-life decisions.
- Advocates for patients' rights from the patient/family perspective while providing counsel and acting as a resource to resolve issues.
- Anticipates ethical, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and intervenes to maximize patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning.
- Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation.
- Evaluates the outcomes of documentation and contributes to related performance improvement initiatives.
- Assists staff with assessing patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and leads other disciplines to meet desired outcomes.
- Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others, has respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines and uses an integrated approach toward achieving desired patient outcomes.
- Keeps informed of unit initiatives and incorporates the outcomes of team or committee work into practice.
- Acts as a clinical resource and serves as a mentor to healthcare team members.
- Identifies own learning needs and develops professional goals, seeks opportunities to obtain education to enhance practice, collaborates in the development and implementation of educational plans for identified needs, and reviews self-development plan and professional goals.
- Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements
Certification - Basic Life Support; If Critical Care unit, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support within 6 months of hire; If Pediatric unit, Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire.
Licensure - Licensed Registered Nurse or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse.
Experience - 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
Education - Bachelor's Degree Nursing or Associate's Degree; If RN has an Associate's Degree, within six months of date of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following: 1) Identify which accredited school they plan to attend, 2) Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion date, 3) Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre-requisites and timeline for taking the courses, and 4) Complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
