Pediatric Heart Center RN (CLIN NURSE 2)Job SummaryThe CN identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient-centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations.
Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
- American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- At least one (1) year paid RN experience in a similar setting.
- Minimum one (1) year of recent RN experience
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Pediatric RN
- At least six (6) months prior experience with patients with congenital heart disease
- Experience providing patient education and caring for pediatric patients
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.
- Knowledge of current trends in nursing.

Preferred Qualifications- Cardiac Vascular Nursing Certification (RN-BC), Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN), Pediatric Nursing Certification (PED-BC), or Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification (AMB-BC)

- One (1) year of outpatient pediatric cardiology experience
- One (1) year RN experience in a pediatric inpatient setting
- Experience providing patient education and caring for pediatric patients with cardiac diseases

Our multi-disciplinary team includes pediatric cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who work together to provide compassionate and expert care. We specialize in diagnosing and treating a wide array of pediatric cardiac conditions, including congenital heart disease in adults. Our Pediatric Cardiology team is committed to supporting and guiding families throughout their entire healthcare journey, ensuring the best possible heart health for our diverse patient population.
Department Specific Job ScopeAs a Clinical Nurse II (CNII), the nurse will play a crucial role in coordinating care, advocating for patient needs, and improving communication with the treatment team within the Pediatric Heart Center. There are several specialized programs under the umbrella of the Pediatric Heart Center. Although the primary focus of this role is on the Pediatric Heart Center, the CNII will also be expected to cover responsibilities related to Outpatient Pediatric Cardiology as operational needs dictate as it's one of the key programs under the department. This position requires flexibility to manage all aspects of care within the Pediatric Heart Center and provide comprehensive support across its diverse programs.
