Children's Seasonal Float Pool RN (CLIN NURSE 2)Job SummaryThe CN identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as a resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned, and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience, and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications- A valid California registered nurse license without restriction
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
- American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)/American Heart Association (AHA) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- At least 2 years recent RN experience in an acute care hospital, caring for both acute care and critical care patients in the various pediatric specialty units
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.
- Knowledge of current trends in nursing.
- Commitment to excellence in patient care.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
- Adapts to change in a positive, professional, and productive manner.
- Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.
- Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice.

- Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, taking into consideration protective interventions, development (behavioral and physical), and physiological characteristics specific to the patients.

- Float experience.
- Experience in a teaching hospital with high acuity patient care.

Department OverviewPatient Care Resources provides 24/7 RN and HUSC Float Pool coverage to a variety of inpatient areas within the Patient Care Services division. The department has over 200 employees, both per diem and career. The department also has several programs that provide support to the inpatient units: Float Pool, Per Diem Pool, STAN Program, Action Team, Rapid Response Team, SOS Nurses, and Children's Hospital Seasonal Float Team, and Development Programs in the Pediatric Specialty and Adult Critical Care Specialty areas, as well as the Acute Care - Float Pool Residency Program.
Department Specific Job ScopeThis is a float position, overseeing the care of patients within the Pediatric Float cluster, caring for patients in the Acute care and Critical care pediatric specialty units. This position would include nurses in different programs within the Patient Care Resources Department: Children's Hospital Seasonal Float, Float Pool, STAN Program, and SOS Team, and RNs in these positions care for a variety of medical and surgical patients within the various units that acute care or critical care pediatric patient care is provided.
