Duties and Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant: (Included, but not limited to)
You’ll report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and:
- Coordinate daily accounting work and entries related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll in conjunction with the finance associates.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations for general ledger accounts including bank reconciliations.
- Facilitate the month-end close schedule ensuring monthly entries and accruals are complete and the books are closed on a timely basis.
- Produce monthly financial reporting for the leadership team and board members.
- Assist with the annual budget process.
- Maintain fixed asset ledger and depreciation schedules.
- Coordinate annual financial audit and tax return preparation with partners of the organization.
- Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.
- Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Assist in the financial management of the organization by monitoring expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Perform other accounting duties as required or assigned.
Requirements:
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and strong financial analysis skills.
- Strong Excel skills, detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work with little to no supervision and perform under pressure.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff within the organization and external stakeholders.
- In the case of a recovering person, he/she must have successfully maintained a two (2) year period of abstinence from alcohol and other drugs.
- Have or ability to obtain and maintain a State of New Mexico Criminal Records Clearance.
- Must be over 21 years of age.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required. CPA preferred but not required.
- 3+ years of accounting experience in day-to-day accounting operations.
- Experience using QuickBooks online or similar accounting software.
- Experience in automated accounting systems and processes.
- Healthcare and/or nonprofit experience is highly preferred.
