The Opportunity:
HKA's Forensic Accounting practice has expanded its expertise in the Intellectual Property space extensively in the past few years. As we gain more clients, we need to maintain our level of service by adding stellar talent to our Forensic Accounting team.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and quantify economic damages and remedies in different types of matters including patent, trademark, and copyright infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, and breach of contract litigations.
- Draft expert reports for testifying expert to review.
- Make strategic recommendations, identify issues, and communicate with the testifying expert on the direction of the case.
- Direct, review, and provide feedback on the work product and analyses of junior team members.
- Communicate and lead meetings with counsel, clients, or other experts.
- Prepare the testifying expert for deposition and trials.
- Perform business development activities.
- Deliver trainings and develop colleagues.
Ideal Skills and Experience:
- A degree in a quantitative subject such as accounting, finance, economics, or business/management.
- Minimum of 6 years of prior Forensic Accounting experience, preferably focused on Intellectual Property Valuation.
- Experience in Disputes, Commercial Litigation, Fraud also welcomed.
- Specialization in determining Intellectual Property (IP) related damages and remedies (reasonable royalties, lost profits, unjust enrichment, business disruption, injunctive relief).
- One or more accounting or professional credentials (CPA, CFE, CFA, CLP) preferred, but not required.
- Experience supporting or acting as a damages expert witness in a federal or state court.
- Experience managing and staffing a team.
- Committed to providing high quality analysis with strong problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with complex and/or ambiguous requests using creativity and strategy.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
- Technical skills including the full Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, SQL, and similar.
- Self-motivated and committed to meeting deadlines.
Preferred but not required:
- Hands on experience with patents and FRAND.
- Extensive experience in Financial Modeling.
