The mission of the Risk Assessment (RA) unit is to identify, de-escalate, and decrease violent activity and its possible adverse effects upon students, faculty, staff, and university community. RA staff work with a variety of university partners to address behaviors of concern that include threatening communications directed towards one's self or others, threatening behaviors, physical violence, stalking or unwanted pursuit, domestic or interpersonal violence, sexual violence, or other activities that violate the university's Campus/Workplace Violence Regulation. This unit facilitates the university Behavior Assessment Team (BAT) in its mission to ensure that effective intervention and management is provided in situations that pose, or potentially pose, a threat to the safety of the campus community. The primary goal is to work effectively with community partners to prevent violence so that the university may remain a safe environment to work and learn. Safety is a community responsibility and having an informed and knowledgeable campus community is a critical component to the mission of the RA Unit. This office offers multiple training and educational opportunities in addition to providing instructional information on workplace violence prevention, reporting responsibilities, resources, and how to assist. Training participation is strongly encouraged on campus, required in some instances, and significantly contributes to the overall success of fulfilling the unit's mission.
