The Dean's Office within the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a Junior Finance Associate. The School of Engineering and Applied Science consists of 9 departments across the field of engineering. The school has seen tremendous growth in student population and faculty, as well as in its research expenditures in recent years.
This position is an entry level position which supports other members of the Dean's Office Finance team in managing funds throughout the School. These funds support both strategic investments across the School as well as Dean's Office Operations.
This position will assist with all financial functions in the School, including, but not limited to:
- Manage account setup for various funding opportunities for departments including Dean's investments and allocations from central funding units.
- Preparation of account reconciliations.
- Preparation of monthly reports detailing department startup balances.
- Provide oversight of existing startup balances quarterly and follow up with overspending departments to ensure exceeded commitments of funding are remedied.
- Support analysis of accounts for projecting anticipated cash needs.
- Assist in analysis of the Dean's sources and uses reports, including year to date and projection analysis.
- Assist in analysis of budget to actual reporting.
- Assist/prepare journal entries as well as cost transfers.

- Have excellent communication skills both electronically and verbally.
- Demonstrate an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Demonstrate a proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel as well as a desire to develop advanced skills.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of other Microsoft Office products.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma. Strong preference given to candidates with a bachelor's degree in a related field.
