Description
Performs engineering analysis, calculations, research and prepares reports on Automotive, Marine or Mechanical related consulting projects. Provides support for and leads projects. Plans, directs, coordinates and manages projects for clients regarding vehicle crash investigation and reconstruction for passenger vehicles and heavy trucks. Provides analysis and support to ensure that goals/objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or with the assistance of Staff Consultants or Staff Engineers. Responsible for assisting in business development in the Automotive/Marine Practice group to obtain a client base for ESI.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviews project details to determine time frame, procedures, and deliverables for accomplishing project, including staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources throughout various phases of the project.
- Testify in court on behalf of clients.
- Makes determination to take or decline projects based on all variables.
- Establishes work plan and staffing for each phase of project and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel.
- Confers with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.
- Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
- Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required.
- Prepares project reports for management, client, or others.
- Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems.
- Conducts well-developed and well-prepared client presentations.
- Coordinates project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies.
- Works with Business Development to identify potential clients and strategies to build client base.
- Mentors non-senior employees in growth and development.
Qualifications
Experience Preferred
- 5+ years' work experience
- Basic familiarity with hand and power tools, instrumentation, and automotive systems and components
- Machine shop, machine tools, wood working tools
- Demonstrated familiarity with automotive systems, Data acquisition and instrumentation
- Material testing laboratory experience
Skills Required
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Above average verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in technical presentation and writing of technical reports
- Proficient with vehicle EDR imaging procedures
- Proficient with mathematical, CAD and office productivity software on multiple OS platforms
- Strong mechanical aptitude
Skills Preferred
- Advanced proficiency with MATLAB, AutoCAD, Excel, and programming languages
- Significant knowledge of motor vehicle systems
- Experience with FEA software ABAQUS or similar
Education Requirements
- BS in Materials/Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics/Engineering Mechanics, etc. from an ABET accredited engineering school.
- P.E. license (preferred); required to obtain PE if candidate does not possess.
- Formal training in Automotive Accident Reconstruction (preferred)
Additional Qualifications:
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Must be able to occasionally travel for short-notice trips of variable duration
- Trips may include weekend and holiday travel
