POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Specialist, Occupational Therapy - Peds/Neonatal, Bellevue Hospital. In this role, the successful candidate will be integrated into all phases of service provision. They will provide direction to all patients in Neonatal, attend meetings to assist with the development of this service in Bellevue, and provide educational training to nurses, OTs, and related professionals in developmental care and OT role for Neonatal. The OT is part of the OT Med-Surg team and needs to support the OT supervisor in Med-Surg. Flexibility to work with adult patients as needed is required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inpatient: Feeding, handling, positioning, parent/family education, information groups (medical/clinical staff, families, and caregivers). Oversee/monitor developmental care and infant-driven feeding practices. Assist in implementing changes where needed. Identification of children and monitoring for referral for NCCP, outpatient services (therapy, groups, resources needed before or upon discharge). Identify, refer, and evaluate children in need of Early Intervention or other therapeutic/educational services. Parent work; education around developmental issues/concerns. Liaison in unit (staff and families).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Internal/External Contacts: Consult and interact with the following inpatient and outpatient disciplines on a daily and weekly basis as part of clinical practice and supervisory activities: Parents of premature and critically-ill infants, Physiatrists, Neurologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Child Psychologists, Geneticists, Speech/Feeding Therapists, Neonatologists, Nurse Practitioners, Audiologists, Radiologists, Ophthalmologists, Cardiologists, Nurse Educators, Nutritionists, Surgeons, Neuro Surgery, Gastroenterologists.
- Residents-developmental/family-centered care training, general (motor/sensory/feeding/oral motor education) development (non-medical) training/education.
- Nursing-therapeutic intervention, recommendations, family work, instruction in carryover to therapeutic intervention, developmental care training, Bridge to NCCP, general developmental training, work with nursing leadership in collaboration in developmental/family-centered care.
- Neonatology-participate in rounds, consultation when needed, provide clinical information regarding development, progress, rehabilitation, bridge to NCCP issues, continued training in developmental/family-centered care, discharge planning. Training of fellows in developmental and family-centered care.
- Collaborate with Medical Director of Neonatal service and Administrator for Neonatal to develop Bellevue as the Regional Perinatal Center. Follow guidance for delivery of services from the National Association of Neonatal Therapist and American Occupational Therapy Association.
- Neurodevelopment evaluation and treatment including sensory development and processing information, motor function (neuromotor development and biomechanical factors), social-emotional development. This leads to formulating programs which provide emerging competencies in infant occupations.
- Oversee service delivery, Early Intervention issues, training in development, training, assist in program development, staff training, implementation/monitoring of developmental and family-centered care on unit.
- Community: Provide referrals, selection of and facilitation of programming for children, development of relationships and collaboration with other service (therapeutic, educational) providers. Bridge between families/children in unit and services needed within community (selection, initial contact). Education of community resources, policies of early intervention, continuing education on current policies, therapeutic interventions, and trends in development, treatment, and outcomes.
- Oversee selection of children referred for orders, appropriateness of treatment, skills, involvement in family-centered and developmental care.
- Outpatient: Feeding/developmental therapy/consultation. Liaison with nursing/therapy agencies. Recommend referrals for outside therapies. Interface with outside agencies, Early Intervention agencies, and therapeutic programming as needed.
ADDITIONAL POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: May need to assist in main OT dept as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify you must have a MA in Occupational Therapy, Advanced Masters, NY State Licensed Occupational Therapist, NDT Certified, NOMAS Certified (specialized feeding assessment), Certificate in Sensory Integration & practice, Certified Infant Massage Instructor. REQUIRED LICENSES: Occupational Therapist License-NYS.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Certification of Neo Natal, Certification in Neonatal touch and massage certification, Member of AOTA and NANT, Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $73,770.80 - $122,951.34 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
