Job Description: The Attending Physician for a Mental Health Facility will provide psychiatric care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with mental health disorders. This role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality mental health services and ensure patient safety and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Conduct psychiatric evaluations and assessments to diagnose mental health conditions.
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans.
Prescribe and manage medications, ensuring appropriate use and monitoring for side effects.
Provide psychotherapy or refer patients to appropriate therapeutic services as needed.
Monitor and document patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, social workers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Participate in case conferences, treatment planning meetings, and other team meetings.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers, providing education and support as needed.
Compliance and Documentation:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with regulatory and facility standards.
Ensure all documentation meets legal and ethical standards for confidentiality and patient care.
Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Professional Development:
Stay current with developments in psychiatry and mental health treatment.
Participate in continuing medical education (CME) activities and professional development opportunities.
Mentor and supervise medical students, residents, or other healthcare professionals as needed.
Quality Improvement:
Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and facility operations.
Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines.
Qualifications:
Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
Licensure: Valid medical license to practice psychiatry in the state where the facility is located.
Certification: Board certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or equivalent.
Experience: Previous experience in a mental health setting preferred.
Skills:
Strong clinical skills in psychiatric assessment and treatment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Work Environment:
The position is based in a mental health facility, which may include inpatient, outpatient, or residential treatment settings.
The role may involve working with diverse patient populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and elderly individuals.
The position may require participation in on-call rotations and flexible working hours to meet patient needs.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods.
