The IDS pharmacy position interacts with patients, research coordinators, research managers, sponsors, and health care providers to perform a variety of technical pharmaceutical tasks including:
- Assisting in the preparation, review, and implementation of drug study protocols at Fred Hutch
- Maintaining accurate investigational drug records for study subjects
- Collaborating with investigators in support of investigational drug studies
- Research and education as it pertains to the care of research subjects
Responsibilities
Clinical:
- Assist or oversee the maintenance of accurate investigational drug records (including documentation of ordering and receipt of drug, drug inventory maintenance, packaging, or pre-packaging responsibilities) and review and update as indicated.
- Assist in arranging for study participants to receive study medication per protocol.
- Counsel patients on medications for use at home.
- Serve as drug information resource for healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.
- Assist in the communication between investigator and clinical staff (providers, nurses, pharmacists) to help ensure feasibility and implementation of the investigational protocol.
- Provide consultation to investigators regarding drug-related matters in the design of protocols.
- Establish and maintain efficient lines of communication between pharmacists, physicians, nurses and other members of the health care team.
- Inform investigators of institutional and investigational drug service policies and procedures.
Education and Research:
- Develop training materials for pharmacy staff.
- Provide instruction for undergraduate and graduate pharmacy students, and pharmacy residents.
- Provide didactic teaching to student pharmacists at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy, as requested.
Practice Management:
- Implement and maintain departmental policies and procedures related to the safe and effective use of medications.
- Participate in the development and implementation of quality assurance programs for pharmacy services, including, but not limited to, prevention of medication errors.
- Routinely evaluate current updates in service specific literature.
- Participate in pharmacy and hospital committees as requested.
- Participate in protocol development and exploratory projects that would directly contribute to improved patient care.
- Maintain patient confidentiality according to UWMC and Fred Hutch standards.
- Adhere to UWMC Pharmacy Services, UWMC, and Fred Hutch policies and procedures.
Dispensing:
- Perform duties of a Pharmacist II.
Qualifications
Required:
- Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy
- Completion of a PGY1 residency program or 3 years of practice experience
- State of Washington Pharmacist License
- Ability to communicate with investigators relative to investigational drug studies
- Ability to participate in protocol development and implementation
- Ability to maintain confidentiality according to departmental and institutional standards
- Ability to follow all state, federal, Fred Hutch, UWMC, Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission rules and regulations
Preferred:
- PGY2 in Oncology or Investigational Drug Services or equivalent experience

The annual base salary range for this position is from $146,432 to $244,046 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
