I. Major Responsibilities:
- Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty at all times. Obtains and examines the requisition for imaging examination. Always checks patient identification band for inpatients and two methods of identification for outpatients before any procedure is performed.
- Participates in transfer of patients if needed, positions and instructs patients regarding the procedure in order to obtain and effect the desired screening/diagnostic results as specified by the physician.
- Follows all department established and appropriate policies and procedures as required. Makes changes and adjustments to techniques as required by observance of physician, Supervisor and self-improvement and initiative.
- Provides protection according to department policy to unaffected areas of the body from radiation exposure in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
- Calculates and selects proper technical factors as appropriate to the procedure. Selects equipment appropriate to the patient and the examination to be performed.
- Evaluates the images to assure that they contain proper identification and are of diagnostic quality. Adjusts techniques and factors when necessary due to improper studies or quality factors.
- Operates imaging equipment according to specific diagnostic procedure and in conformance to established routines and techniques.
- Follows PACs workflow procedures, ensuring all electronic images meet quality standards including the correct patient demographics and accession numbers.
- Monitors patients receiving contrast for adverse reactions and notifies appropriate staff if needed.
- Ensures that images, examination requisitions, and other related records are properly completed for proper patient identification, statistical, and billing purposes.
- Maintains work area in clean and orderly condition and ensures that examination rooms are properly supplied with equipment and materials.
- Understands and practices ALARA principles of Radiation Protection including the use and exchange of personal dosimeters.
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. RTR licensure in the Commonwealth Massachusetts, this includes a temporary (1 year) MA license.
2. ARRT certification in Radiology is required within 12 months from date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
3. BLS certification.
4. Some specialty modalities may require additional formal training and certification.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Maintain all area specific CEUs for ARRT, DPH according to regulation.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
Work is considered medium. Position requires work indoors in a normal patient care environment.
