ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
Our Surgery Clinic at Bluff Creek provides a wide spectrum of general surgery services. We have 5 general surgeons, 1 Nurse Practitioner, and 1 Infectious Disease physician who offer surgical services and wound services. Our nurses assist with minor surgical procedures, provide patient education, wound dressings, and provide exceptional care. BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:
This position is responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients by utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, implement clinical nursing interventions, and develop and implement patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assess the patient's condition and nursing needs, set goals, and prescribe appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals, including discharge planning. Assess, intervene, and reassess the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly. Demonstrate an understanding of medications with regards to action and side effects. Report pertinent information to the appropriate individual. Educate patients and significant others about their medications. Maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and department. Participate in meetings and quality improvement groups. Report pertinent observations regarding patients to the appropriate person and record those observations accurately. Provide quality care to patients and work with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the highest patient satisfaction.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General supervision is received from the Charge Nurse or Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Functional supervision is exercised over nursing and support staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under the new state of residency within thirty (30) days.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Participation in a professional nursing organization. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
