6 South is a 22-bed acuity adaptable unit at Butterworth Hospital that is capable of managing both non-ICU and ICU status patients admitted with advanced cardiopulmonary care needs.6 South specializes in patients with advanced heart failure, pre or post heart or lung transplant, Left Ventricular Assist devices, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, and respiratory failure necessitating Bipap, Hi-Flo Nasal Cannula.

Scope of work
Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization, and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
Orientation
Orientation begins with classroom training 8am-4:30pm on specific dates: 10/21, 10/22, 10/24, 11/4, and 11/15. Training will also include additional up to 8 weeks of continued daytime orientation shifts with a preceptor, before the regular night shifts begin. To be sure we can provide the training needed, flexibility with availability to train 3 weekdays per week in October and November is important.
Qualifications
- Required High School Diploma or equivalent
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
- Patient Care experience is preferred
