JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: Fills orders for drugs, monitors patient drug therapies and provides drug information; supervises and directs supportive personnel. Job is performed appropriately for the age population served, as defined in the department’s scope of service. Maintains compliance with all applicable laws and regulations for pharmacy and accrediting bodies including URAC. Responsible for department meeting legal and regulatory and accreditation requirements.

JOB FUNCTIONS-COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

- Assists specialty processes through to completion.

- Performs patient onboarding and assessments of new specialty prescriptions and records all interactions with patients and providers in specialty pharmacy software platform.

- Accurately enters prescription information into the computer along with demographics, insurance, clinical data, prescription, and shipping information for new orders and prepares and dispenses the prescribed medicines in a timely fashion.

- Complies with URAC requirements for department.
- Understands and complies with the 340B referral process and 340B retail pharmacy program.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with all stakeholders and customers of the pharmacy.
- Oversees technician pharmacy staff while they are performing duties of filling, receiving, and dispensing activities and ensures that staff members adhere to policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
- Conducts drug utilization reviews to ensure appropriateness, efficacy, and safety related to medication use.
- Consults with patients and/or providers regarding the use of medications and potential drug interactions.
- Participates in the training of pharmacy staff.
- Demonstrates evidence of maintaining storage and record maintenance systems for providing safekeeping of medicines or pharmaceuticals.
- Provides clinical guidance and support to pharmacy technicians, staff pharmacists and interns.
- Performs clinical assessments and re-assessments on specialty prescription patients.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Retail pharmacy experience preferred.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: BS Pharmacy or PharmD.
SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS: Current non-restricted license.
HIPAA REQUIREMENTS: Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Medical records w/ limit to job functions both paper and electronic, patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient information related to surgery or appointment schedules, medical records related to quality/data, patient financial information and 3rd party billing, information related to patient location, religious beliefs, research information, and/or public health records, employee prescriptions, investigatory information.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient identification, transporting medications, and receives meds and/or orders.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May require standing or frequent use of computer keyboard and sitting for extended periods. May require lifting over 20 pounds. Talking and hearing and vision occur continuously in the process of communicating with customers and other employees.
