The Relationship Banker is responsible for establishing and growing relationships within the bank. This involves making sales calls and developing a rapport with the customer or potential customer. Growth goals for all RBs are established for loans, deposits, and fee income, while the RB is also asked to be active in the communities we serve.
Primary Functions
- Adheres to the Bank’s Vision, Mission Statement, Moments of Truth, Core Competencies, Sales and Service standards, Bank policies, Bank regulations, and the Bank Operations Manual.
- Structures and analyzes new and renewed loan requests and makes loans within lending authority.
- Follows the Bank’s sales process and interviews commercial loan applicants.
- Actively participates in new business development program.
- Works closely with SRB, RP, and RSCO and presents loan applications for the appropriate approval.
- Works closely with RBGA to prepare loan packages for approval, closings, and post-closing.
- Manages all aspects of assigned loan portfolios and relationships including assigning appropriate risk grades to loans and relationships and monitoring compliance with loan policies and appropriate regulations.
- Collects past due loans unless assigned to the centralized collectors.
- Responds to referrals from Senior Management and others.
- Handles customer service matters and inquiries for lending and non-lending issues.
Secondary Functions
- Sends financial statements to the credit analysts for spreading and analysis.
- Provides informal training and guidance for less experienced lenders.
- Participates in community activities and organizations.
- Refers appropriate banking opportunities to other departments and personnel.
- Cross sell all company products and services.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility but may informally supervise and guide less experienced Relationship Bankers and Relationship Banking Group Assistants.
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is a largely sedentary role, requiring use of typical office equipment such as a computer and phone; however, occasional bending, stooping, and stretching may be required as well as the ability to lift up to 10 pounds. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work outside of this schedule may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Travel is expected for this position, primarily within the local area and occasional trips for Regional/Corporate meetings.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Graduate or GED and 5 years of related experience or Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related experience.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and other necessary software for efficiency.
- Motivation and initiative are essential and must have a sense of urgency and be proactive.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Must possess excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of sales principles, the understanding of lending and credit approval processes, and pricing models.
- Ability to present loan commitments to executive management of customers.
- Must possess a high level of analytical skills, effective interpersonal skills, and have the ability to be assertive with sound business decisions that best interest the bank and borrower.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or more than 7 years of related experience.
