NYC Ferry operated by Hornblower is seeking a Staff Accountant for our operation in Brooklyn, NY.
About You This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody Hornblower's RESPECT Service System.
About The Opportunity The Staff Accountant is responsible for recording various day-to-day transactions of NYC Ferry including customer invoicing, banking and payroll; reconciling balance sheet accounts; performing income statement and month-end closings analysis, and preparing financial reporting. Proficiency in navigation of the Great Plains general ledger and sub-systems are necessary to validate accuracy of transactions. Research and resolve discrepancies by working with departmental staff to obtain supporting documentation. These responsibilities require attention to detail and accuracy for timely completion. This position will interact with all departments which requires strong communication and management skills.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor and record bank activity including running and analyzing daily merchant credit card settlements, and reconcile bank accounts.
- Reconcile agent and ticket vending machine cash transactions to deposit reports.
- Analyze payroll and prepare weekly payroll register upload to general ledger.
- Prepare customer invoicing per contract specifications and compile supporting documentation for services performed.
- Record and reconcile inventory transactions, including adjusting journal entries.
- Assist management team with Ferry contract reporting and compliance matters.
- Prepare information and documentation for financial audits.
- Provide the accounting department with day-to-day office support including electronic filing, organizing documentation, and archiving essential records.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
- 1-3 years experience working in a similar role; hospitality or transportation preferred.
- Knowledge of accounting principles; ability to analyze figures; attention to detail; problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency working with enterprise general ledger system and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Proactive self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced environment and an ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet firm deadlines.
- Knowledge of Great Plains accounting software a plus.
- Ability to ensure accuracy in job responsibilities.
- Ability to properly organize and prioritize tasks.
- Honest, dependable, punctual and hardworking.
- Friendly with a professional attitude, appearance, demeanor, and respectable confidence.
