Job Scope
The Staff Accountant will play a key role in assisting with the management of the company's financial operations. This position involves handling financial transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making. The Staff Accountant will also be responsible for contributing to process improvement initiatives.
Core responsibilities also include providing financial analysis, supporting company-wide process improvement initiatives, and mentoring others on how to interpret and utilize financial information.
Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing and analyzing financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Month-End and Year-End Close: Support the month-end and year-end closing processes by preparing journal entries including numerous accruals in areas of T&E and cash, assisting the cost accounting team with reviewing work order variances, cost estimates and reconciling accounts.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in collecting and communicating financial information with department heads to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts. Assist in monitoring actual performance against budgets and provide variance analysis.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct in-depth financial analysis, identifying trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement. Provide recommendations to senior management based on analysis findings.
- Audit & Tax Preparation: Assist with tax and internal audits, including the preparation of schedules and documentation.
- Process Improvement: Continuously assess and enhance financial processes and internal controls to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
- Ad Hoc Projects: Participate in special projects as assigned by the senior finance leadership team.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in accounting or equivalent experience required
- +2 years professional experience in an accounting role required
- Manufacturing experience required
- SAP experience highly preferred
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and/or product costing preferred
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, including basic accounting concepts, practices and procedures
- Strong organizational skills in order to prioritize and complete work efficiently
- Ability to independently exercise judgment when resolving issues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
- Attention to detail with an eye for accuracy
- Motivation and persistence to complete critical tasks in a timely manner
- Ability to operate office equipment including – but not limited to - multi-line phones, personal computers and copiers
