About Us:
Seasats is a small but rapidly growing company building autonomous boats for commercial, defense, and ocean science customers. The vehicles we build are strong and durable enough to carry sensors on multi-month ocean missions, but are also light enough to be handled by 1-2 people without cranes or heavy equipment.
The company is located in sunny San Diego, CA and is composed of talented engineers, builders, tinkerers, and business people. Internally, our shop work culture is hard working, but fun and quite flexible. Externally, we’ve built a reputation for being professional, knowledgeable, and dedicated to getting the job done. Role: Math, Money, and Marketing Extraordinaire / FP&A & BD / Business Generalist
Salary Range: $85,000-$115,000 + stock options and benefits
At Seasats we strive to make top-quality products, and we’re just as invested in running effective business operations. We’re looking to bring on a numbers-oriented generalist to help with the second goal. This role will focus primarily on financial planning and analysis, but if you’ve got the time and skills you may contribute to business development and marketing efforts too. If you’re a quantitative thinker interested in startups, keep reading!
About You:
You’re a highly curious person, one who has built a lot of spreadsheets in your time. You like to ask questions and understand systems deeply, but you can work with round numbers and rapidly identify general trends when you've only got an hour to make a decision. You keep things organized, can write clearly, and can make a PowerPoint slide that is both visually appealing and informative. You are also:
- Good at Excel
- Experienced building and maintaining financial models
- Happy to work on a variety of projects and topics
- Familiar with financial statements and basic accounting principles
- Discreet and trustworthy with sensitive information
- Interested in technology
You get bonus points if you’ve worked with startups, built things with your hands, and/or worked with technology products before.
The Details:
Currently multiple people on our team devote parts of their time to tracking and optimizing where our funds flow and when. In this role, you’d draw data from various parts of the business, process and interpret it, and make sure key takeaways get recorded and shared with the right people. You’d also contribute to day-to-day operations by assisting with bookkeeping, identifying areas for improvement, and creating product invoices and quotes.
Specific Tasks:
- Building and maintaining financial models to inform key business decisions
- Assembling quotes for customers
- Creating and tracking invoices
- Preparing financial reports for investors and quarterly meetings
- Building project and event cost analyses
- Assisting with accounting (seasonal) and bookkeeping (year-round) efforts
- Contributing to grant applications and project proposals by helping create budgets and relevant narrative sections
Whether you’ve been working for 3 years or 30, we expect an open-minded learning attitude from everyone at Seasats.
Perks:
- Stock options
- Competitive insurance (including a 99% employer-covered Gold HMO plan or other options)
- 401k matching up to 4% of salary
- Four free lunches per week
- Access to an employee activity fund
- A pet-friendly office
We’ll help you ramp up with introductory projects and regularly take time to discuss where things are working and what needs to change. We’re also big on personal freedoms: if you’re on top of your responsibilities and want the afternoon off to surf or spend time with friends and family, go for it! We have flexible hours, a flexible time off schedule, and a personable, kickass work culture. We want someone who’s stoked to contribute in and to this environment.
Our values are listed below. We’re happy to explain them more during the interview process.
- Get Shit Done
- Be Kind
- Fight Entropy
- Attack with Overwhelming Force
- Ask More Questions
- Lines, Not Dots
