Bowdoin College is seeking an Accounts Payable Associate to assist in the transition to new software through September 30, 2025. The Accounts Payable Associate will supplement staffing in the Controller’s Office and will perform a wide variety of functions in accounts payable and accounting.
This position requires independent problem-solving, creative thinking, attention to detail, and excellent diplomacy skills in working with campus community colleagues. The ideal candidate desires to learn new software and has experience in accounts payable and accounting.
The Accounts Payable Associate will handle accounts payable functions, including but not limited to invoice and journal entries, invoice/expense imports, invoice mismatches/returns, supplier maintenance, statement reconciliation, expense report audits, payment settlements, and staff coverage. In addition, this position will assist with routine accounting tasks/projects.
Education/Skills Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required
- Applicants must possess the ability to maintain accurate and detailed financial records
- Possess a high degree of “attention to detail” and confidentiality
- Proficiency in computer systems (e.g., financial, spreadsheet, scanning)
- Ability to work independently within a team atmosphere; and the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Proficiency with the common programs of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent verbal, written, and customer service skills are necessary
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in an office setting with a strong customer service orientation is required
- Accounts Payable and/or bookkeeping experience is preferred
- The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal history background check and credit check
Standard Work Days and Hours
- Preferably first shift 8:30am – 4:00pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday – 19 hours per week.
